Techniques
Ju Jitsu uses many different techniques. These can be broken down into four main categories:
- Strikes - Punches, kicks, elbows, knees and other strikes designed for specific areas.
- Locks - Techniques that apply pressure to the body's joints to cause pain or damage.
- Throws - Various methods of propelling and opponent to the ground.
- Holds - Methods of secure people in a single position, usually when on the ground.
You will also learn how to put these techniques together effectively.
Progression
The early stages of training concentrate on basic movements and learning to punch, kick, throw and break your fall. You'll then progress to learning more compex striking, throwing and locking techniques. When you have gained more confidence, you'll do regular practice in sparring with strikes, groundfighting and randori- free throwing practise. Once you get beyond black belt, you can also do weapons training.
Session Times
We train on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.15pm in the Old Sport Hall. After these sessions, we usually go for a drink to a local pub.
Saturday and Sunday sessions are booked on a weekly basis - so check before attending. Saturday is usually 11am in the Dance Studio - near the Old Sports Hall. Please arrive early to help put the mats out before every session!
